Abhi Eye Hospital is an ultramodern and a unique private organization conceptualized and established by Dr.R.Selvam in 2002 at Attur. Prior to 2000, patients in the region had to travel to tertiary centers in Madurai, Coimbatore and Chennai for retinal care. With the establishment of Abhi Eye Hospital in Attur, Salem, advanced medical and surgical vitreoretinal services have become readily available for the patients in and around Attur.

The center takes pride in providing advanced level of diagnostic and therapeutic services in the field of vitreous and retinal diseases and is equipped with facilities for indirect ophthalmoscopy, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), ultrasonography, glaucoma care, squint care, and retinal surgeries.... COMMON EYE-RELATED PROBLEMS

Cataract formation is a commonly occurring syndrome due to aging process.

Most people regain the vision they had earlier with the help of microsurgery. The procedure has a 98% success rate. As one of the leading eye-care providers in Attur, Salem District, we perform about 200 cataract surgeries per month. Our state-of-the-art facilities include high-end phacoemulsification systems to facilitate micro-incisions under topical anesthesia-eliminating sutures. We have specialty microscopes that can handle intraoperative issues. Our surgical instruments minimize postoperative refractive errors.

We have higher-end and world-class instrument “STELLARIS ANTERIOR & POSTERIOR SYSTEM PHACO MACHINE” for performing ocular surgeries. We are extremely proud to state that we are the first and the one & only unique private organization to provide this top-class machine in the entire Salem district.

We also have a variety of specialized instruments to help us in providing high-end ocular services, including

• Zeiss Yag II laser to treat posterior capsular opacification occurring after surgery.

• Zeiss IOL master to accurately calculate intraocular lens power in normal diseased eyes.

• Specular microscopes and pachymetry to determine appropriate surgical options.

Globally, diseases affecting the cornea are a major cause of blindness. A range of infectious and inflammatory eye conditions ultimately affect the transparency of the cornea and cause corneal blindness. They add a substantial burden to the community in general and healthcare resources globally. Furthermore, individuals with corneal blindness are usually of a younger age group compared with those suffering from cataract. Hence, in terms of total blind years, the impact of corneal blindness is even higher.

In India, there are approximately 6.8 million people who have corneal blindness with vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye; of these, about 1 million have bilateral corneal blindness. If the present trend continues, it is estimated that the number of corneally blind individuals in India will increase to 10.6 million by 2020.

Abhi Eye Hospital established the cornea clinic with the latest infrastructure. Corneal diseases are diagnosed by our experienced ophthalmologists.

Our Cornea Clinic performs the following surgeries:

• Penetrating Keratoplasty

• Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty

• Descemet Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty

• Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty

• Therapeutic Keratoplasty

• Collagen Cross-linking

• Refractive surgeries in collaboration with partner eye hospitals in the area

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve that affects approximately 60 million people globally. It is the second most common cause of blindness, leaving an estimated 7.5 million people blind. In India, it affects 11 million people, of which 1.5 million are blind. Although there is no cure for this condition, doctors can help preserve remaining vision and enable patients to live a productive life.

Our glaucoma clinic is equipped with the latest diagnostic tools such as Humphrey’s perimeter and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).

• To measure retinal fiber thickness.

• To diagnose glaucoma at very early stages before there is a significant loss of vision.

DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS

• Humphrey’s Visual Field Analyzer

• Automated Tonometer

• Pachymetry

• Visual Field Analyzer

• OCT

• Fundus Camera

OTHER FACILITIES

• B-Scan

• Stellaris Automated Anterior & Posterior System New

Our clinic also serves as a large referral center for the treatment of congenital glaucoma, a rare condition with increased eye pressure and corneal enlargement present at birth or during the first few months of life.

Lifelong monitoring of glaucoma is essential, the frequency of follow-up visits depending on the individual case. During each visit, most of the tests may be repeated to determine the progression of the disease and to decide whether a change in treatment is needed.

Diseases of the retina, the vitreous, and the optic nerve can cause serious vision problems. Fortunately, most of them can now be managed satisfactorily with modern methods of diagnosis and treatment. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are the keys to healthy eyes.

Our retina clinic is equipped with:

• Retinal Laser Photocoagulation

• Diabetic & Hypertensive Retinopathy

• Fluorescein Angiography (FFA)

• Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

• Ultrasonography (A- and B-Scan)

Laser procedures are extensively done in the retina clinic.

It is a very delicate operation performed with an operating microscope and special needle-sized instruments. The most common indication for this operation is the removal of the vitreous, which has lost its transparency and has become an obstacle to the incoming light.

In this surgery, most of the non-transparent vitreous is removed and replaced with a clear solution. Vitrectomy may also be used to remove the pulling forces of the vitreous, which may have led to detachment of the retina. This operation may also be used to remove blood clots, infectious material, cataract, foreign bodies, and abnormal membranes from the interior of the eyeball.

Sometimes, it is done for diagnostic purposes for diseases of unknown origin. Occasionally, it is necessary to inject air, gas, or silicone oil into the eye after removing the vitreous gel.

Abhi Eye Hospital is one of the few eye hospitals providing specialty care for patients with diabetes. Diabetic clinic was established with the aim of helping patients with timely diagnosis and management of the disease.

As mentioned earlier, we have Dr C. Sripriya Selvam who is an experienced diabetologist, who consults patients with diabetes and other systemic disorders such as hypertension and provides appropriate solutions.
